FOUND DROWNED.
« The body found floating in the harbour yesterday Avas identified at the inquest this morning by the second officer of the Haupiri from tattoo marks, and by others from the clothing, as that of Robert M'Dougall, \vho had been a seaman on the vessel. He Avas last seen a little before midnight on Thursday AA r eek by tAvo mates and Constable Pearce. He then expressed the intention of not going aboard that night, and A\ r ent aAvay along Grey-street. He Avas due on board the vessel at 8 o'clock on Friday morning, but did not appear, and there seems little doubt that he Avas droAvned between midnight on Thursday and Friday faiorning. The verdict Avas Found Drowned, and that there AA'as no evidence to shoAV how he came to get into the Avater. Some discussion, arose as to the possibility of further precautions being taken to protect people Avho iise the wharves against casualties of this kind, but it Avas agreed by both the Coroner and the jury that the difficulties were so great that they did not see their Avay to make any recommendation. It Avas, hoAA r ever, suggested that better lighting of the RailAvay Wharf, from which the Occident is supposed to have occurred, Avas very desirable. Mr. Alexander James was foreman of the jury. (
