BURGESS IMPRISONED TOR VAGRANCY. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Bkisbane, 20 th January. The police have withdrawn the charge o! theft preferred against the mau Burgess, who was arrested at Dalby after a desperate struggle on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of the Murphys at Gatton. A charge of vagrancy was, however, substituted. Counsel for the prisoner contended that no evidence had been adduced to warrant punishment, but the police asked for a conviction, alleging that it would be better for the prisoner to be removed from a district where he had inspired terror among the women. Burgess was ultimately seutenced to two months' imprisonment, notice of appeal being given. The prisoner afterwards communicated to the police, through his solicitor, an account of his movements during the Christmas holidays, about, which, up to the present, he had been reticent,
