MISHAP TO THE WAIKATO.

Ltttelton, 26th January The steamer Waikato arrived b ere unexpectedly this morning. As she was leaving Oamaru yesterday for Timaru she bumped heavily twice, and the captain decided to briner the vessel on to Lyttelton for examination. She wrb docked this afternoon and a survey was made. The damage ■was not extensive, only three bolts amidships being loose. The steamer will probably proceed to Tlinaru to-morrow. The present position of the scheme to estaWisb the steam service designed by this company is as follows : — At the first general meeting of shareholders Mr Kestell explained that, although nothing definite had yet been decided as to securing a suitable steamer, there was one vessel raider offer to the company, but she could not be handed over until May. Mr Logan, of the firm of Logon Bros, of Auckland, who was present at the meeting, displayed plans of a steamer be proposed 1o build for the company. Her dimensions were— Length, 100 ft; team. 20ft; and }he would have ttibin accommodation for 26 passengers. The i vice would be £4550, and he was willing to take a large number of shares in the company and give liberal terms of payment if the settlers would take up another 200 shares between them. The vessel's tonnnge would be 100 tons. After a long discuppion it was decided to make Mr Logan a, definite offer on amended terms.
