ADANA, FROM NEW YORK.

A fine type of cargo steamer— the Adana — paid her first visit to Wellington this morning. She is from New York, and called afc Australian ports, Dunedin, and Lyttelton en route. The Adaim is a two-deck steel screw steamer of 3448 tons gross and 2178 net, and is quite ft new vessel, having only left the builders' (Palmer and Co., Newcastle-on-Tynd) hands in 1897. Her dimensions areLength, 350 ft; breadth. 45ft 2in; depth of hold, 26ft 9in. The engines are triple expansion, the diameters of the cylinders being 24in, 40in, and 64in, with a stroke of 45in, and are 326 h.p.n. There is no passenger accommodation, but the officers' quarters, chart room, &c, are roomy and well fitted up. Few steamers coming to Wellington hare a more commodious chart room. She has about 900 tons cargo for this port, including 6000 cases kerosene. When leaving New York her total freight amounted to over 7000 tons. After putting out her Wellington cargo the Adana will sail for Auckland, thence to Newcastle for coal, awl load up at Melbourne with groin, &c, for London. Her officers are— Chief, Mr Carr j second, Mr Shaw : third, Mr Raby. The chief engineer is Mr Coreie. The Adana, which is owned by Mr Wood, of Liverpool, has hitherto been employed in the London-Bombay trade. On her last trip down the East Coast the Omapere brought a reoord cargo, viz, 800 bales wool, half of which was transhipped to the Akaroa at Gisborne nnd the remainder to the Star of Victoria at Napier. A telegmm from the Bluff states that the Shaw, Snvill, nud Albion Co's ship Zealandiu, with a full cargo of wool, sailed for London at 9 o'clock this morning. A bud bar is detaining the Queen of the South at Foxton, and she is not likely to cross outwards before to-morrow.
