» - [PKESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, 29th December. The late Major Derroin, one of the oldest volunteer officers here, was buried to-day with military honours, the volunteer corps of the Auckland Garrison attending the funeral. The swimming carnival in connection with the native regatta was held in the Calliope Dock to-day, 2000 people being present. In the Boys' 50yds Ea"ce an excellent performance was put up, Dervan accomplishing the distance in 32£ sec, the fastest time in wbich the distance was traversed during the sports, and probably a New Zealand record. In the 220 yds Handicap G. A. Tyler won in 2inin 51sec.
