MR. BARTON AND THE REID GOVERNMENT.
WAR TO THE KNIFE. ACCUSATIONS OF WHOLESALE BRIBERY. [PKESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, 26th September. Mr. Edmund Barton, who defeated Mr. S. Smith in the contest for the Hastings seat in the ■ Legislative Assembly, was accorded a hearty reception on his return to Sydney, a procession being formed in the main streets. Mr. Barton expressed his intention of ousting the Government at the earliest opportunity, He accused the Minister of Public Works of wholesale bribery in connection with the election.
