DOMESTIC WOnUEKS' UNION. A deputation from the Domes! ic Workers' Union waited on the Premier at 10.30 o'clock last night, to urge the introduction of a measure securing for domestic servants oii(! half-noliday a week. The deputation was introduced ])y Mr. John llutcheson, M.U.lt. Miss C. Paturson, Secretary of the Union, said they only claimed what other workers had as a right, and a^ked the Government 1o stiengthen tlieir hands by making a weekly hall-holiday legal, the day to be a matter of arrangement between the girls and their mistresses. Mr. Hntcheson pointed out that they did not wish the holiday to mean that they must necessarily leave the house, but only that they should be oIC duty. The Premier thought it would be impossible to pass legislation that would necessitate putting private houses under the surveillance of .inspectors, and the girls would find it didicult to make complaints v>ith any freedom themselves. It was urged, in reply, that the In ion wished the half'holiday to be recognised as a right, and not as a favour for which llu^y had to bet,'. The Premier promised to submit their claims to the Labour .Department and the Ministers, and wished them to feel that they would be treated with due consideration. THE rOTiIPK COMMISSION'S KEI'OET. The report of the Police Commission has been presented to the Government, and, it is understood, is now in the hands of His Excellency. The evidence is not yet all printed, and as it will take some time to finish it, the report is not likely to be laid before Parliament for fomc little lime.
