The Premier arrived at noon, and was received by the Mayor (Mr. E. Goodbetaere), Borough Councillors, and a number of other gentlemen. Invercaegill, 27th May. A sharp shock of earthquake was experienced here at 12,55 o'clock to-day. Christchuech, This Day. Mrs. Alfred Saunders, wifo of the exraember for Selwyn, who arrived in the colony in 1814, died yesterday, aged 09. Joseph Watpon, a married man, died yesterduy from injuries received through a kick from a horse which ho was clipping. Auckland, This Day. Mr. D. M'Nabj a prominent resident, and a member of the City Council and other bodies, died last night, aged 71. The Exhibition Committee has decided to grant the space required for the Government exhibits free of charge. JDunedin, This Day. The Mount Lyell Mining arid lfcailway Company has declared a dividend of 49, which absorbs £50,000. (OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Masterton Ttfis Day. Robert Harkness was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with obtaining charitable aid by fraud, but the case was dismissed, and accused was then charged with drunkenness and sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Messrs. W. H. Beetham and L. J. C. Hooper were the presiding Justices.
