The Ruabine, from Lyttelton and Waitara, arrived this moruing 1 . Bad weather at Waitara prevented the vessel from shipping all the cargo that was originally intended for her from that port, and only about half the quantity was put on board, viz., 1400 quarters beef and 900 ceases cheese. She will complete her loading nt this port with a large quantity of meat and general, and sails for London on Saturday. The Miihiuapua, from Onehuuga and Tavanaki on Saturday, is bringing down 150 tons butter and 40 tons cheese for transhipment to the big liner. The passenger list is a large one, as all the becond saloon berths have been taken up, while there is a good demand for first saloon and steerage berths. The following passengers arrived by the Penguin from Lyttelton this afternoon : — Misses Moorhead (2), Mesdamcs Mavtindale, Shepherd and 2 children, Price, Bucknell and infant. Cnmeron, Lord Eanfurly, Captain Alexander, Messrs Simcox, Winchester, Greenslade, Ayson, Lloyd, Baldwin, Merreweather, Baker (2), Cainphell ;' ls steerage Captain Thorpe, of the Elingamite, reports passing a barque in the Strait this morning. The vessel was too far off to enable 'her number to he read, hut she wished to be reported all well. The Westralia left Sydney at 5 pm yesterday for Wellington via Auckland and the East Coast, with 552 tons eai-^o and 110 passengers. She is due here to-morrow week. The vessel which it is proposed to place on the Mruiawatu River is the steam launch Flower o£ Kent, now in Wellington harbour. The Manawatu Farmer states that it is probable the Flower will he taken to Foxton shortly. Some excitement was caused in Lyttelton and Dunedm on Saturday last by the circulation of a report that the steamer Talune (which arrived from Sydney last night) had become a total wreck on the Australian coast, and that all hands had been lost. A groundless -'yarn" was also circulated in Wellington on Tuesday that the Wainui had struck a rock while coming from Nelson. BY TELEGEAPtf. Sydney, 17th March.
