THE PETONE LOAN PROPOSAL.
« The ratepayers of Petone will do well to remember that to-morrow a poll will be taken to determine the' borrowing of a sum of £2000 for completion of the drainage scheme of the municipality. It is important that those entitled to vote should bear in mind that the votes of those who absent themselves from the poll must be cast against the proposal. Such is the law. Otherwise the proposal can only be carried by a majority of two to one, always provided that the majority is representative of one-half of the whole ratable value of the municipality. Every ratepayer who desires the loan authorised should, therefore, determine to record his vote. If the loan be not voted, the only recourse would be" to draw upon the general revenue for completion of the work piecemeal, and to do this even, we are told, it would be necessary to strike an extra general rate. It will thus be seen that every ratepa}'er of Petone who can do so should record his vote at the poll to be taken tomorrow.
