THE GREAT STRUGGLE ON THE EIGHT HOURS QUESTION.

SUGGESTIONS FROM THE BOARD OF TRADE. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 22nd October. The Board of Trade has forwarded letters to the Employers' Federation, the Engineering Association, and Amalgamated Society of Engineers, in which the attention of these organisations is directed to the lamentable results accruing to the employers and country by the strike. As a basis of a conference, the Board suggests that the employers should disavow any intention to interfere with legitimate action by the Trades Unions, while not admitting interference in the management of their business, the Trades Unions on their side to maintain the right of combination, but to disavow any interference with the management and withdraw the demand for 48 hours per week, leaving the united conference to settle the hours of work.
