A SPORTS CARNIVAL.
The Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Natives' Association, following the example of its Australian sister association, has decided to impress its existence and activity upon the public mind through the most popular of mediums, an art union and a day's carnival of sports on the Basin Reserve. Anniversary Day (22nd January) naturally becomes the occasion, and both expert athletes and prominent citizens are entering enthusiastically into the details. The prizes offered in the art union department are set out in an advertisement in another column, and include two £110 Dresden pianos, two of Messrs. Inglis Bros.' Raleigh bicycles, a Champion and a Cleveland machine from Messrs. Jenkinson & Co., 25 handsome pictures, and others. Altogether the art union is liberal, the sports programme will be interesting, and the patriotic spirit of the association must appeal especially to the native-born, if not to every dweller in the city.
