WOMEN'S NATIONAL COUNCIL. THE NEXT SESSION TO BE HELD IN WELLINGTON.
. A meeting of delegates o£ various women's societies in < Wellington f6r the purpose of deciding matter* in reference to the holding of the next annual meeting of the National Council of Women, as well as to listen to an, address from Mrs. Tasker, was held last nig)it at the roqmjs of the Natives' Association. ' Mrs. Tasker occupied the chair, and was about to commence' her address when, at tbe request of Mrs. Phinmer, she agreed to take tbe business part of the meeting first. The first question was whether the next annual meeting of the Women's National Council should -be held in Wellington or not. The following societies were represented :— Workers' > Union, Southern Cross. Society, Women's Social and Political League, Wellington Political Society, Women's Democratic Union, and Salvation Army. After some expressions of opinion, Mrs. Plimmer desired to move that the nex,t meeting of the Council should not be held in Wellington, whereupon the Chairwoman announced her decision not to take any resolutions until she had read tbe paper she had prepared. Mrs. Pliinmet then requested the Chairwoman to read her address at once. Mrs. Schoob, at. this stage, suggested that •the press representatives might with advantage retire, but this generous suggestion was rejected by the Chairwoman's ruling that she could not ask them to do so, as she had invited them to the meeting. Mrs. Tasker then read her paper, which dealt with the proceedings of the last Council held in Christchurch and other things. She urged the societies to affiliate with the National Council. Seventeen societies (including two at Wellington) were already affiliated. Mrs. Hinsch proposed that the next meeting of the Council should be held in Wellington. The Chairwoman ruled that in voting on the question each of the six societies present should .have one vote. After some further discussion the motion was carried, the voting being as follows: — Southern Cross, against; Women's Democratic Union, Workers' Union, and Wellington Political Society, for. The Womeus' Social and Political League ana the Salvation Army refrained from voting. Mrs. Plimmer (Sputhern .Cross Society) said that her society would share in the entertaining of the visiting delegates aud guarantee a certain share of the expenses, but would not be responsible fo%any deficit.
