THE REPAIRS TO THE WAINUI.

* # At a late hour yesterday afternooi. it had been definitely decided to send the s.s. "Wainui to Port Chalmers for the repair of the damage done by her striking on the Beef Barrel Eocks at French Pass. The attitude of the boilerraakers in the service of the Union Steam Ship Co., who objected to work alongside the employes of a local firm, with whom they had some differences, was the chief ground for this decision. Ultimately wiser counsels prevailed, and on it being pointed out to the men that their action was detrimental to the interests of the Union Co., theydecided to fall jn with the arrangement, and all misunderstanding is removed. An arrangement has beeu entered into by ilessrs. Cable aul Co. aud the Union Co", •whereby the 'former firm will repair the rents and t;vistings in the bows, which is roughly estimated at about two-thirds of the total damage, whilq the hands employed bythe Union Company will attend to the other f parts of the vessel. Altogether eleven plates lire to come out in the bows and seven elsev here. , A number of iloor-plates, rivets, <&r., will, of course", have to be removed. The ■work is expected to be completed within a fortnight..
