A CCIDENTS AND FATALITIES,
[by telegraph — press association.] Hokitika, This Day. W. Harper, an old resident of Kanieri, was found suffocated in his bed yesterday moruing. Evidently he had been reading in bed and fallen asleep, and his candle burning down the box took fire, and the smoke suffocated him. The flanles were ascending the wall when the neighbours entered. [oub otf n correspondent.] Mastebton, This Day. A man named Berg has been seriously injured at Eketahuna by a tree falling on him.
Mr. Robert Meech, clerk to Mr. F. Sidey, lost the top of one of his fingers through the door of the auction mart slamming upon it yesterday afternoon. A co-operative employe" named Edward Burke, engaged on the Government railway works at Hakanui, while removing a stump allowed it roll on him, with the result that his collar-bone and one rib were broken, and he was injured internally. lie was taken to Eketahuaa, and on being examined by Dr. Murray- Aynsley was found to be in a bad condition*
