HOW CHARLEY CAVILL MET HIS DEATH.

News by the San Francisco mail as to the death of Charles Cavill, the champion swimmer of Australia, shows that be was drowned at Stockton, California, while (riving an exhibition at Jackson's Baths. He was in fine condition, and his last act was to staj'' under water longer than smin 6sec — the world's record. "When Cavill had been under the water six minutes, it was realised that something was wrong. A friend dived for him and brought his body to the surface. . Efforts were made at resuscitation, but failed. It is believed that he was suffocated by gas which gathers in these baths, as there was no water in the body.
