ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. DOMESTIC FRICTION THE CAUSE. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, Bth May.

A master mariner named James Lowrie was arrested to-day on a charge of having assaulted his wife and two sons with intent to kill them. Apparently the occurrence was a most sensational one. Lowrie's wife and family live on the Epsom-road. Until last October the husbaud had not been home for about ten years. On the date mentioned Lowrie, who is 62 years of age, arrived home, and it is alleged that he wanted his family-to support him. Out of this proposal considerable domestic friction arose, which culminated this morning in what is alleged to have been an attempt to shoot Mrs. Lowrie. Mrs. Lowrie states that shortly before 8 o'clock she was standing at the door of the cotta&e with her two sons when her husband fired at them with a revolver. She shut the door as soon as she saw the weapon, and the bullet lodged in the lintel. Her husband then went round the house, broke a window, and then fired another shot. This bullet was found in the sill of the door. He then with a piece of scautling broke all the Avindows in the house. The family state that another shot was fired, but this bullet has not been found. Acting upon this information, Constable Hinton went in search of the man, and about noon met him on the Great North-road, in Eden-terrace district, coming towards him. He at once took Lowrie iuto custody, and, upon searching him, found in his possession a bulldog revolver, three barrels of which were empty and the other two loaded. Lowrie was brought to Aucklaud.
