THE TICHBORNE CLAIMANT.
I<UJK,TJUJ!iiS, TAKEN. [PHESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, 29th April. An application was made to-day on behalf of Edward Priestman, who is acting under a power of attorney for the Rev. Edward M'illiams, Catholio priest, Devonshire, England, tor an order dirpcting Sir Roger Tichborne, at present confined in the Parrainatta Asylum under the name of Cresswell, to be given into the custody of the applicant for removal to England. A number of affidavits were read in support of CvesswelFs identity as Tichborne. Priestman was prepared to give security for the safe custody and maintenance of Cresswell. Mr. • Justice Manning said he would require evidence that Williams was a relative or friend, and was acting entirely in the interests of Tichborne, without ulterior motive. He declined at present to allow Cresswell to be examined, but would allow an examination of the asylum books. The application in the meantime was postponed. It was mentioned that Cresswell had cost the country over £800.
