ENTREATIES OF THE GREEK LEADER JEERED AT. (Received April 30, 10.15 a.m.) ATUKNB, 29th April. A few officers vainly endeavoured to stop the stampede on Friday. The struggle to cross a solitary bridge across the river Epinens, which runs diagonally with the road, was terrible, and lasted for hours. "When Larissa was reached the fugitives laid in the streets utterly exhausted. The frenzy calmed down somewhat when the moon rose, and some semblance of discipline was restored at daybreak. The soldiers jeeringly refused the Duke of Sparta's entreaties to defend the town.
