SAD BOATING ACCIDENT IN TARANAKI.
THREE PEOPLE DROWNED. [bt. telegraph— press association.] Hawera, 29th November. A sad boating accident occurred at Waingongoro beach, between Hawera and Manaia, at 11 o'clock this moruing. A party of eight— Messrs. R. Briggs, C. Wordsworth, Charles Clarke, Harry Sisley, John Caldwell, and Misses Wordsworth (2) and Clara Crowhurst — went out in an open boat, and -when returning the boat was struck by a breaker and capsized: Messrs. R. Briggs and C. Wordsworth and Miss Crowhurst were drowned. The bodies have been recovered, much bruised. Mr. Wordsworth was a married man, about 45, and leaves a wife and six children. Mr. Briggs was married, about 27 years of age, and leaves a wife and one child. Miss Clara Crowhurat, aged 17, was the daughter of Mr. Crowhurst, of the Manaia Witness. Mr. Wordsworth was a well-known settler. He was one of the survivors of the wreok of the Strathmorc, wrecked on the Crozet Islands many years ago, and was rescued from the island after being cast away about 12 months. _
