TEE CHILDREN OF TEE CITY.
Children! From the tiniest red-faced, barefooted, toddling baby to the sedate elder sister of ten, Newtown Park on Saturday afternoon just swarmed with juvenility. It was as if spring had suddenly visited the Park and there had come a sudden efflorescence of children like thefjuickbloominKof spring flowers. For it was the children's fete, and youngest New Zcalanders had mustered to the force of over 3000 for their annual outing. The weather was splendid, and the youngsters enjoyod themselvos right royally. Four Permanent Militiamen in mufti took charge of the races. Altogether it was a bappy day. for the children. The committco which was responsible for the working was composed of Mesdames Veitch, Bannister, Petherick, Dudfleld, Itogan, Taylor, F, "Will*, Pascoe, Crabb, Pettit, Boxall, Weston, Baggett, Chappie (Treasurer), Miss Lockie (Secretary), and the Rev. Messrs, Evans, Tisdall, Baumber, Ward, Messri. Geo. FUKer and Davis. The President was Lady (JH?gow, and the Vice-Presidents Mrs. Seddon and Mrs. G. Fisher. The subscriptions raised amounted to over £60, of which half was obtained by a performance of the Draraatio Students, for which the Committee Ktu/n their thanki, U ' ~' ... -
