THE ASSOCIATION TOURNEY. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Dunedin. 9th September. The first round of the New Zealand Football Association tournament was held to-day on the Caledonian Ground in the presence of a fair number of spectators. The day was perfect, except thai it was rather too warm for the players. The match was between Auckland and Otago, and resulted in a win for Auckland by 8 goals to nil. The visitors proved better individually, their combination was superior, and they had advantage in height and weight as well as speed. They were as superior in defence as they were in attack, Mr. Nicholson made an efficient., referee. Auckland and Wellington meet for the final on Saturday. Our special correspondent telegraphs that the winners showed better combination and superior weight, which enabled them to beat Otago at nearly every point of the game.
