THE STOCK AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson & Co. report on yesterday's Johnsonville stock sale as follows : — We had about the usual number of cattle entered for the sale. The bulk of the bullocks were medium to fair, with the exception of one lot of really fine, well-bred and fattened-up at Te Aute. The bidding was brisk throughout, and beef sold fully equal to last sale's rates. Sheep were generally light and not well-fattened. • There was no alteration in value. Pigs were better worth. Cattle— Best bullocks, £8 15s to £9 ; others, £7 10s to £8 17s 6d ; lighter sorts, £6 5s to £7 ss ; cows, £4 17s 6d (equal to 19s for ox and 15s for cow beef per IbOlb). Bheep— Wethers, 13s Id to 14s 8d; ewes, 11s to 12s 9d. Pigs — Baconers, 30s to 375; others, 21s to 265 ; porkers, 17s to 24s 6d. Mr. D. Crewe, auctioneer, reports: — At Pahiatua stock sale, held on Tuesday, the Bth, the yards were again filled, every cattle pen being occupied, and the total number of

cattle yarded' was 300, the majority of which were of inferior quality. There was a fair yarding of sheep, and a good attendance of the public. Bidding for the hoggets and wethers was spirited, also for good classes of cattle. Inferior classes of sheep and cattle were neglected. Although many lines of cattle were passed in under the hammer, I succeeded in quitting most of them before the close of the day. The following prices were realised :— Sheep— gooJ hoggets, 8s 3d ; store wethers, 10s 6d ; ewes in lamb, crossbred, 7s ; empty ewes, aged, ss ; Cattle — fat bullocks, £6 ss; fat cows, £5 7s 6d; store cows, £2 5s to £2 17s 6d ; cows in calf, late, £3 2<j 6d to £3 10s; cows to calve this month, £4 15s to £5 12s 6d; good class 2i-year dairy heifers, £3 15s to £4 Is; heifers, late calving, £2 12s; yearlings, mixed sexes, poor class, 30s; yearlings, good class, 37s 6d ; 18 months' steers, small line, £2 7s 6d ; good strong, weaners, 27s 6d to 30s ; 2-year-old steers, small line, good class, £2 13s.
