Dunkdin, This Dat. The caee of the New Zealand Land Company v. Government, the first compensation case under the compulsory lands taking legislation, is now being heard. The company claim 3 *845,890 ; the Government offers £29,911. Mr. Chapman appears for the company; and Messrs. Fraser and Neat on, of Oamaru, for the Crown. The case will last several days. The School Committee disagrees with the Nelson Board's election of Mr. Harkness, 8.A., as headmaster, and has closed the sohool for a week, looking the doors against the master. Wanqanui, This Dat. Edward Williams was sentenced to five years' imprisonment to-day by Judge Kettle for bigamy.
