London, Ist September. There was an all-night sitting of the Honse of Commons on Friday night, owing to Mr. Healy's aggressive attitude in Committee of Supply. At a sitting on Saturday the House disposed of the Estimates. The debate on the Army Estimates showed that the House approved the Government reforms, especially with regard to the supply of small-arm ammunition. Mr. W. St John Brodrick, Under-Seoretary for War, pointed out that the remedy had been provided by the supply of fonr million rounds, costing some .£llO,OOO. Both Sir Charles Dilke and Mr. Chamberlam condemned the action of the Marquis of Ripon in not spending .£50,000 for the poor. The vote of .£20,000 for beginning the Government railway in East Afrioa from Mombassa to Viotoria was passed. [special.] London, Ist September. Mr. Balfour, replying to a question in the House, said the Government had no intention to vote a special pension to the Duke of Cambridge, who was entitled to a retiring allowance of .£2200 per annum.
