Palmkiston North, This Day. Last night the Borough Counoil passed resolutions urging the Government to establish sittings of the Supreme Court at Palmers ton, and that the member .for the district be asked to support the request : alao that in order to further settlement in the distriot the Government should be approaohed with ' the view of acquiring Sir .James Prendergatt's estate, for the purpose of subdividing it into small holdings. The chief symptom ia paralysis of the hind-quarters. v£warda of twelve cows have died within the past fortnight. Lambing haa become general all over the district, and the season promises 'to be exceptionally good. ,' '" A deputation, consisting of several clergymen and-others, waited on lient.-Col. Hume yesterday with reference to the immorality and gambling existent in Palmeraton. Speakers also stated that the Licensing Aot was oontinually broken by liquor being •old after honra. 001. Hume stated in reply that he waa glad to know that the views of the deputation in reference to immorality aooorded wi* those of the police, and also that the putaide, publio were" willing to cooperate in suppressing house, of ill-fame. He was unaware that gambling dens existed in Palmeraton, and if the Lioenaintr Aot waa being' continually broken, aa alleged, the police' were neglecting their duty, and he would see that the 'provisions of the Aot were ttriqtly enforced.
