The balance-sheet as audited waß approved and signed, and 50 copies were ordered to be printed. The Mayor reported that on receiving the report from the Engineer that the slow delivery of pipes was plaoing the Council in a serions position with the drainage contractor, he (the Mayor) had thought it advisable to go to Auckland to interview the oontraotor for pipes on the subjeot. He found that some misunderstanding existed on the aubieot of delivery, and that the contractor's plant had broken down on three occasions, necessitating sending to Sydney for renewals. A large quantity of pipes in arrears were to be shipped this week, and 500 per week were to follow. He had given the oontraotor dearly to understand that if there was any delay the Connoil would probably obtain pipes elsewhere, and any exoeßs of oost would be charged against him; also that 'the Council would enforce the penalties provided foe in tbe oontraot. On- tbe question of the stop-bank, the Mayor moved that the Council go into committee. Councillor Burridge objeoted, as the ratepayers were anxious to know hon their representatives were acting in this matter. As an amendment he moved that the words '" and that strangers be not excluded" be' added to the motion. On the amendment being put there was a tie, and the Mayor gave his casting vote against the amendment. On resuming, the committee recommended — (1) That of the three lines submitted by the Engineer, the one extending from the main road to Moron's creek be adopted; (2) that the Gas Company be requested to give the land required for the line of the stopbank on ite properly, as shown on the sketch plan adopted; (3) that the Mayor oonsnlt with the Messrs.
