Pathetic Farewells front Underground.

The following are some of the inscriptions found on tho " billy-cans " of some of the miners who lost their lives in the recent disaster at M'Evoy's mine, Eldorado, Victoria, through being blooked in the workings by an influx of sludge, and so suffocated : — On-No. 1 billy !-" All getting faint. No air. God proteot, and for the sake of my poor obildren and wife, Lizzie, look after them and bring them np good. Money I have in my box and bank be divided with little ones. M*Ve the beat; of what I hive Hived. God will be good to them. Eiss them for their poor father*! sake. I forgive all. My love to all that ate dear to me. Good-bye, my dearest obildren. — Ghabjmb Dawxinb." On. another patt of the same billy was written, "Money— Yon will find £2 in the lumbar-room. Be Saturday, 6 a.m." On the bottom of the same billyoan were the following words :— '•' You will find JE2 in the Inmber-room near the leg of the bunk, at the bag end. Love to all.— C. Dawkins." On

another billycan were the words—" Writo to my poor mother — C. Dawkins." " Good bye all. — J. Armstrong." " Goodbye to all. — J. Crane." " Good bye, mother and father.— J. Crane." The last message was written on the round side of the billy.
