The following are the gold returns for the week : — Alpine, 2120z amalgam from 200 tons; IKg River, 310oz amalgam from 122 tons ; Hercules, 2270z amalgam from 82 tons (oleon up) ; Rnssall, 1560z amalgam from 30 tons (olean up) ; Progress, 2320z amalgam from 216 tons ; Cnmberland. 106oz amalgam from 50 tons ; Wealth of Nations, 80oz amalgam from 47 tons (clean np); Globe, 2200z amalgam from 110 tons (clean up) ; Cocksparrow Dredge, 550z gold for 63 hours' work. Christch itvcJi Unemployed. ♦ [Bt Telegraph. — Press Association.] Christchuech, 27th April. This afternoon about 200 m n oat of work interviewed tho tho Hon. W. P. Reeveß and aaked for employment. Mr. Beeves promised to find work under the alternative system on tho East-road, about 33 miles from Stratford, but refused to assist those who expected to get work in Canterbury. He complained that the men had refused work at Ngaire swamp or to go to the State farm. A few of the men gavo in tbeir namea aa willing to go to tho work offered.
