Mr. Beeves promised to find work under the alternative system on tho East-road, about 33 miles from Stratford, but refused to assist those who expected to get work in Canterbury. He complained that the men had refused work at Ngaire swamp or to go to the State farm. A few of the men gavo in tbeir namea aa willing to go to tho work offered.
