THE HALF- HOLIDAY.
I ♦ I [Bt Telegraph. — Phebb Association ] i Auckland, 27th April, i Onehunga shopkeepers haye issued a. notice intimating their intention of closing on Wednesday and keeping open on Saturdays A telegram has been sent to the Hon. . W. P. Reeves, and a reply received to this . effect : — " If there is any illegality in con- ' neotion with the proceedings of the Council in the matter it is open for anyone to bring a caso before a Magistrate." This the shopkeepers decline to do. and so they leave it to the Minister and the authorities to take legal action. [The telegram as it appears is misleading. The position is that the Borough Council fixed Saturday, whereupon a shopkeoper i telegraphed to tho Minister to ask him to . upset the Council's decision on the ground 1 of informality. The Minister replied as above, that he could not interfere with the i decision of the Connoil, but that tho Courts ' were open to the shopkeepers if thoy desired to move.]
