A SAILORS' GRIEVANCE.
IBt Tblegiufh.] [united peeBb abbooiation. Gisbounb, THrs Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day three seamen of the ship Wellington wore charged with refusing to obey orders. The men were engaged in Wellington, and advance-notes for £A each (ono month's pay) were there paid to them. Theao they handed to & restaurant-keeper to cash and provide them with an outfit. The restaurant-keeper Bent the men from Wellington to Gisborne in charge of men to see them safely on board their Bhip. On arrival here the Bailors complained that they had no clothes except thoso they Btood up in, andrefußed duty until they were provided with olothes. The officers said it was not their business to see that the men had clothos. Men often came aboard vessels with scarcely anything more than pyjamas or a oanvas snit. They had seen sailors going ronnd the Horn with hardly any clothes at all. The accused's oomplaint was a matter purely between them and the boardingbouse-keeper. The Magistrate remanded the men till Friday, in order to allow the police to enquire into the statements.
