Several members of tho colony are Buffering from chaoo and elo- ' phantiasis. i In tho Sydney District Court. J. H. Smiles, mechanical engineer, sued W. W. Head, : Sooretary of the Now Australia Association, to recover .£7O, an amount alleged to havo been paid as a member of the Association. Plaintiff paid £80 to become a member, bnt after almost completing the arrangements i came to the conclusion that the scheme was not being properly carried out, aiid withdrew. Ho asked for a refund, as the last payment had not been completed, and Head replied that a now Board of the Association had been formed at Paraguay, and the application would have to be dealt with by tho new trustees. The defence was that tho final payment had boen made, and that Head conld not be sued, as it was a partnership transaction. Judgment was reserved.
