JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. WELLINGTON v. HOROWHENUA.
The game was piayed at Petone, and was won by Wellington by 12 points to love. M'Callum captained the local team, and Hoalop the visitors. The play was very open during the first portion of this half, i the brothers Bennett doing good work on behalf of the visitors, who were unable to ' cope with the splendid forward rusboß of the local men. The Wellington backs made ; a perfeot hash of their passing, Hood and Driscoll being the prinoipal blunderers. J. Smith, the Wellington full baok, was repeatedly called on to clear his lino, 1 and waß always equal to the occasion. Towards tho end of the spell the Wellington players were awarded a free kick, and Morton succeeded in placing a goal, whioh was the only Boore when half-time was called. 1 Play in the sooond spell was greatly in ' favour of the local team. Drißooll touched ' down twice, and Rawson once, but the scores > were not improved on. Smith, Morton, and Drummond played well for the winners. Drisooll and Tripe did not display their usual form. Hood was crippled early in the game, and his mistakes must therefore be leniently judged. The for- ) wards bore the brunt of the game, and worked ■ hard from start to finish, Oswin, Langton, ' M'Kay, M'Callum, Leslie, and Rawson I doing good work. Bright, Bennett, Tuhera, r and Kiriona (books), and Bennett, Staok- . wood, M'Lelland, and Royal (forwards), were ; the pick of the Horowhenua team. Mr. 8. ■ Nicholls acted as referee, the line umpires i being Messrs. I Hyams (Wellington) and G. i Dungan (Horowhenua). The teams were entertained in the evening i by the Wellington Union. ASSOCIATION. The match Scotch v. English was played , at Petone on .Saturday, and resulted in a win I for the Scotch by two goals to nil. For the I winners, Glover and B'air scored agoal each, ; and the beat for the Scotch were Shields, ; M'Leod (2), and Martin (backs), and i M'Donald, Frater, and Blair (forwards). For the losers, the best were Richardson and Wighton (backs), and Bannister and Deighton (forwards).
