RIFLE MATCHES.

«, A team of eight members of the Petone Rifle Club met the same number of legislators at Petone on Saturday in a friendly match, which resulted in a substantial majority for the local men. In the evening both teams, at tho invitation of Mr. B. C. Kirk, President of the Petone Club, dined at the Victoria Hotel, Host Oxenham fully buhtiining his reputation. The ammunition used was generously supplied by Captain Whitney, of the Auckland Ammunition Company. The scores were as follows (seven shots at each range) ■.—. — Parliamentary Team.

Majority for Petone team, 123. On Saturday the members of the Upper Hutfc Rifle Club held competitions for Messrs* Orr & Lodder'a and Mr. T. M. Wilford's trophies, J. Whiteman, junr., getting a leg-in for the former and the popnlar skipper getting: his first leg-in for the latter. The weather waa very unfavourable for good shooting.
