TJie Newbury-Spada Concerts.

Last night's programme was on the whole an excellent one, and was cordially received by the largo audience which attended the Theatre Royal. Madame Spada was announced to sing Chaminade's " Spring " and Millard's " Waiting," but she substituted the sweet old " Shepherd's Cradle Song " of Sommerville for her opening number, with " Robin Adair " as an encore item, and aftorwarda sang "A Summer's Night in Munich " Mr. Philip Newbury scored his usnal aucoess, though his voice still appeared husky in the upper notes. He gave a delightful performance of Clay's " I'll Sing theo Songs of Araby" and Brahms' " The Death of Nelson," the recall numbers being Adams' " Tho Holy City " and " Annabel Lee." The pianissimo passages in the various numbers were beautifully sung. The contralto of the company, Miss Mongredien, carried off a large share of the honoms of the evening. Her first song was Sainton-Dolby's " Out on the Rocks," the recall producing the well-known " Listening" of Packer. In the second part she sang " Rooked in the Cradle of the Deep " with such sweetness and expression that a double encore followed, when she gave '"When we Mot" (Hope Temple) and " Two's Company." Mr. Harry Smith Eang "Here upon my Vessel's Deck," "Oh! How the Wild Winds Blow," and " Maid of Athens," the last-named in response to a recall. Little Miss Lottie Aldred played two pianoforte selections, for one of which — a fantasia on Scotch airs— Bhe was recalled. The remaining items were the trio " Te Sol Oaestanima," from Verdi's opera of " Atlila, by Madame Spada, Mr. Newbury, and Mr. Smith, and the quartet " Sweet and Low," admirably Bung by the oompany of vocalists. His Excellency the Governor will attend to-night's concert.
