School Retrenchment.
♦ A PROTEST FROM THE TEACHERS. iBT TELEGRAPH.] I UNITED PBKSS ASSOCIATION. I Chiustchurch, 24th June. The North t auterbury Educational Institute has passed tho following motions:—(l) " This Institute is of opinion that the reductions which are being frequently made by various Boards of Education in the scale of salaries paid to the teaohers are owing to tho transferrenoe of funds from the maintenance to the building account, and that steps should be taken by the Government to allocate a fixed proportion of the education grant for the teaohora' salaries; (2) this Institute protests in the most omphatio terms against the soheme of retrenchment adopted by the North Canterbury Board of Education, as being most inequitable and unjust ; (3) this Institute asks the Board to reconsider its deoision with reference to the dismissal by Ist Ootober of malo teaohers in sohools of 29 and under, but to carry out its proposal to appoint female toaohers to snoh sohools by waiting until such positions are vacant in ordinary course."
