LABOUR MOVEMENTS. SUFFERING OPERATIVES. UNEMPLOYED IN ST. PAUL'S. [ SPECIAL.] (Received January 3, 11.40 a.m.)
London, 2nd January. Cotton operatives who did not take part in the recent strike lost in wages the sum of .£200,000. Tho unemployed filled St. Paul's. They bohavod themselves in an orderly manner. Numerous plain clothes constables were present in the Cathedral, and a detachment in uniform was in concealment. The men afterwards attempted to meet at the entranco, but tho police prevented them. They sang the " Marseillaise," and subsequently a procession was formed and marched through the streets. Berlin, 2nd January. Ten thousand miners are rioting at Saarbruok. Ihey are being incited by Anarchists. St. Petersburg, 2nd Jannary. Two million and a half of the Russian peasantry are unemployed. The Government propose to remove population from the congested dißtricts, with a view of granting relief.
