A REPLY TO " REGULATOR."

+ TO THE EDITOR. Sir— l observe that " Rogulator " has reopened the closed correspondence about tho Manawatu speed-trial. Ho imports somo fresh Billy personalities, which I shall not condoscend to notico, except to remark that thoy show his own consciousness of the weakness of his case. I shall deal with himin my own way and at my own time. With reference to his " request," I may say I have reason to believe that tho particulars of tho trip have already been sent (although not by mo) to tho engineering journals. Let " Regulator " submit that remarkablo theory oE his about centrifugal force, which, as stated by him, is that in the case of a proporly balanced compensated engine with 4f fc lin driving-wheols, running along rails at 64 miles an hour, " tho centrifugal force would dovolop a power in excess of tho weight on the axles, and thus lift the wheels at evory revolution." I would tell him what somo ominent engineers have already said about his peculiar theory, but that would bo almost too cruel, richly as he may have deserved it. I am, &c, Chas. Rous-Marten.
