Palmebston North. This Day. At a oommittee meeting of the A. and P. Association held on Saturday, a committee was appointed to canvass the counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Rangitikei for signatures to a petition praying that several clauses in the Shoep Act relating to the branding of shorn sheep be suspended. Four hundred and fifty names have been obtained out of 600 required. At the Police Court this morning, a man named Michael Hogan was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour in Wanganui Gaol for being illegally on tho premises of the Daily Times newspaper, in the Square, tho Bench remarking that several serious fires originated in the town through vagrants, and it had been determined to punish severely persons convicted j of vagranoy.
