Lientenant-General Sir Andrew Clarke has had an interview with Mr, Stanhope, with reference to the remarks ho made during the discussion on the War Estimates, . and, as a result, the Secretary of State for War has promised to withdraw his statement that tho local Governments concerned had not undertaken the necessary works in connection with tho fortifications of King George's Sound and in Torres Strait.
