Throe hundred thousand minors coased work yesterday, and a further' 100,000 will go out next week. It has not been deoidod how long the strike is to last, but it is believod the majority of the men will return to work after the first week. Latest. Numbers of factories are being closed through want of coal, and at Bristol steamers are being laid up. The bookbinders' strike has ended in tboir defeat. Eome, 13th Maroh. Tho Westporfc Coal Company have withdrawn for the present the notice of a veduction in hewing rates in their mino from '2s lOd to 2s 5d per ton, in connection with which a strike was threatened, and the whole of the men went to work as usual this morning.
