FAILURE OF THE DRAINAGE LOAN PROPOSAL.

Polling in oonneotion with the proposal I to raise a loan of .£165,000 for drainage purposes ceased at 0 o'clock last evening. About an hour tubsequently Mr. Amea, tho Return'njr Officf-r, announced that the voling had resulted as follows :— For the loan 2290 Against the loan ... 317 Thirty -four of the votes were informal. 1 here were 3100 burgesses entitled to vote, and these were entitled to exerci3e 5770 votes. In order to carry the proposal it was necessary that 1551 voters should vote, and that 2836 votes should be in its favour. Only 1211 ratepayers in all recorded their votes. Upon tho total number ot votes recorded, the loan proposal ia not carried.
