|Bt Telegraph. I [ONITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland. 30th April. Mr. Stratford, who is a Bottler on Sunday 1 Island, impugns the accnraey of the state- ' ments made by tho returned settlers. He ' maintains that the scheme of settlement has 1 not yet had a fair trial, and it is too early to ' speak of it as a failure. Mr. Stratford alleges 1 that those who have rotnrned from Sunday Island were not bona fide settlers, and he states that they arrived there too late for the planting season, and had they come at the proper time their crops would have been 1 harvested before the rats oommenced their depredations.
