♦ It is probable that tho cricket season in Wellington will be opened on Saturday next. The Star Club opened their season on Saturday with a matoh between teams chosen by Dry den and Littlejohn. The result was a defeat for the latter's side by three runs on the first innings. Virtue and Drydon bowled effootively for the viotors, taking 7 and 5 wiohots respectively. while Cbisholm and Itiohardson obtained 7 and 4 respectively. Virtue made the highest score of the day (14, not out), in Dryden'a second innings. In this innings Riohardson took 7 wiokets and Chisholm 3. Each of the captains were dismissed for a dnok.
