! * ' TUI B.C. V. HUTT B.C. On Saturday afternoon a team from the 1 Tni Baseball Club went out to tbe Lower 1 Hutt and played a match with the Hutt : Baseball Clnb, in a paddock owned by Mr. ' W. J. Scales, of Lily Farm. The contest resulted in favour of the town players by 31 runs to 25, though for a long time the Hutt representatives held such a commanding lead that they looked like certain winners. In the first innings , the Hutt made one run, while the i visitors were unable to Bcore, and in i the next round the suburban side added i 6 as against 2 made by their opponents. [ When five innings were over, the Hutt total . stood at 12 and that of the Tuis at 5; in tbe , sixth and seventh innings the town club had recovered itself, and secured a lead of one ; point, which still remained at the cloße of the eighth Hutt went to bat for the ninth and last time, amidßt intense excitement, and their farther snore of 6 rasa gave them a certain win if only they could keep up their steadiness in the field. This, however, they were nnablo to do, and the Tuis put together 11 runs, giving them an advantage of 6 in the aggregate. The individual scores were as follows : — Tni Club— M'Gifford, 5 ; Woods, 5 ; Barker, 4 ; Flynn, 4 ; Tucker, 4 ; Curtis, 3 ; Cowan, 2 ; McCulloch, 2 ; Hanlon, 2. Total, 31. Hutt Club— Pell, 5 ; M'Nab, 5 ; W. Prinerle, 4 ; Jones, 3 ; A. Pringle, 3 ; Peters, 2 ; Hunt. 2 ; J. Pringle, 1 ; M'lntosh, 0. Total, 25. M'Culloch made a three-base hit, while Woods made two three-baggers and a home run. Mr. A. Chuck acted as umpire. Practice games will be played by the Wellington Club on the Basin Reserve at 6 o'clock this evening, and the same hour on Wednesday and Friday, in view of the return match against the Hutt on Saturday next.
