The Manawatu Eoad Board decided yesterday to close its office, the notice given to the Clerk and Engineer having expired, and there being no funds available to carry on. Should the Board's Clerk be appointed Receiver, the office Trill be re-opened. Extensive preparations are being made in connection with the installation of officers of the Manawatu Kilwinning Masonic Lodge on the 19th instant. At the Manawatu Boad Board meeting yesterday, a claim wob made for injuriesreoeived through a dray going through a defective bridge and injuring the drirer. The Board deoidedthatitooulddonothing. The claimant pointed ont that he would be awarded damages in a Court of law. The Chairman reminded the claimant that even if he did get a verdiot it would be six or seven years before funds would be arailable, and the Reoeiver relieved from his duties.
