A Juvenile Highway Robber.
IBr Tblkgeaph.j [united press association.] Chbisichtjbch, This Dat. At the Police Court yeßterday, before C. Whitefoord, E.M., and Messrs. F. J. Kimbell and E. W. Humphreys, J.P.s, a bo;. 13i years old, named Hugh Lynn, was charged with assaulting -Henry Butterfield, aged seven, and robbing him of three pence in the streets of Sydenham, on Saturday. Accused admitted the offence, he had taken the money to buy a cricket ball. Inspector Pender said accused had, in a most deliberate manner, laid in wait for the child, dodged him about, and, by force, taken the money from him. He was seen and pursuit made. Lynn had the money in his possession when he was arrested by Sergeant Stagpoole. The boy had been twice before the Court, and the brother of the boy was recently Bent to Burnbam for stealing a watch. Accused begged for another chance, which the Bench declined to give him. They were of opinion that parents should be criminally responsible for the carelessness shown by them in neglecting their children, and that if this waa done it would probably reduce the large number of juvenile criminals. Accused would be sent to the Burnham Industrial School until he reached the age of 15.
