THE POLITICAL CRISIS.
fhe Bon. Major Atkinson had an interview with his Excellency tho Governor yestorday, and asked to be allowed till Friday to consider whether he would undertake to construct a Cabinet His Excellency readily consented to this proposal-. Major Atkinson leaves for Nelson this Afternoon, and nothing definite will bo known in regard to his intentions till Parliament assembles, when he will have an opportunity of personally consulting his supportors, whom he has already Communicatod with by wire. The Major informs us that ho has not in any way undertaken to form a Ministry, but has merely asked for timo to consider tho position and see what he can do. Hto will take no decisivo step Until ho is sure of his ground, and if he does not sco his way perfoctly clear he will abandon tho attempt. Ho states emphatically that no coalition can take place between himself and Sir Julius Vogel. That might have been possible in 1884; it is utterly impossible now. He would never consent to it, and ne considers that any such combination would be a disgrace, as tho whole objeot of the House had been to turn Sir Julius Vogel out of powor. If the now House wishes to retain the prosont Treasurer it can do so but if so, Major Atkinson will stand aloof, and none of his supporters will oohsentto follow Sir Julius. Major Atkinson says he is desirous that thero should bo no misunderstanding on this point-a coalition between his party and Sir Julius Vogel is an absolute impossibility.
