Tho second annual horse parade, under the auspices of tho Manawata and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held on Saturday, when there was a large attendance of the public and good entries in both classes The judging was by popular vote, and the result was that the thoroughbred Somnus was awarded first prize, and in the draughts Watchman. Somnus was closely run by Torpedo in the voting, with Tim Whiffler third. In the draughts, the second horse, Sir W. Wallace, was a long way behind. At the Police Court this morning a man named J. Evans was convicted of stealing a decanter of whisky from a hotel in town, and sentenced to 14 days' hard labour. The members of the Manawatu Roard Board to-day proceeded in a body to inspect the works now in progress in their district about which complaints have been made by the ratepayers. At the annual meeting a proposal waa made to ask the Board to remove the Engineer, but the meeting adjourned for a month with a view to the Board taking their presont action.
