Star Boating Club.
« A general meeting of tho Star Boating Club wus hold at tho shed last evoning, Mr. II H. Govott, Deputy-Captain, being in tho chair. Mr. IS. L. Burnoß moved, "When any crew has boon choson to roprosont the olub or othorwigc, after such crow shall have boon a fortnight in training thoy shall bo opon to be challenged by any other orew or O'owif, one week's notice to be given. Only ¦one challonpo race to bo pormitted, such challenging orow not to contain any momber who has already boon choson to ropresent tho olub in any race or races." Ho said that a rnlo of tho kind was in forco in Chrintohurch and was found to work very wo)]. Mr. E. C. Bat kin, in (seconding the motion, said no barm would be done by giving the rulo a trial for a season. Mr. J. 13atgcr, jun., pointed out that as tho resolution was framed a crow could bo challonged two days boforo a race. Mr. Batkin said that in amplifying tho resolution such a contingency could bo guarded against. Tho resolution was carriod. Mr. J. E. Humo proposed, "No ono shall bo ¦nljgiblo for election unless ho has reached tho ago of 18 years prior to tho Ist Octobor in oach year." Tho resolution was sccondod by Mr. Burncs. Mr. C. A. Knapp thought that lads of 17 shonld bo admitted, and that the ago shonld count from the dato of election. Ho moved tho amendment of tho resolution in that direction. Mr. A. O. Gibbes socondod tho amendmont. Mr. Humo altorod his motion no as to road that no ono lo.sr than 18 at tho date of oloction should bo allowed to beoomo a mombor. Tho amondmont was carriod, Mr. Humo demanded a ballot, but tho Chairman hold that as there was no rulo for tho taking of a ballot under tho circumstances, Mr. Humo's demand could not be accedod to. Mr. Bafgor movod, " Two members of tho committoo, not boing officers, shall bo inoligiblo for ro-oiootion the following year, such two to bo ohosen by ballot at the last mooting of tho committee in the year, unions any two mombors Khali voluntarily doclare at such meeting that they aro willing to bo inoligiblo." Mr. J. P. Maxwoll socondod tho motion, and it was carried. Mr. Batkin, hon. sccrotary, montioned that as Mr. A. H. Stock had loft for Oamaru, tho committee had appointed Mr. It. S. Hirschborg to take his place sb auditor. He moved that Mr. Hirschborg shonld be elected. Mr. F. L. Hntohinson socondod. Mr. J. M. King expressed aurpriao that tho committco had taken it upon themselves to appoint an auditor. He considered the prinoiplo a bad ouo. Mr. Knapp. a momber of the committee, said that tho Secretary had mado a misstatement. Tho committee had not elected Mr. Hirschborg, but had simply decided to recommend his oleotion. Tho Secrotary mentioned that under rule 21 the oommitteo had power to temporarily fill r vacancy. Tho motion was agreed to unanimously. Mr. "W. H. Fiold, moved, "That two hoavy •skiff", two donblo scnllors, two practioo tub Pf\ \ two clinker practice fours, and two light, Bkiffs, bo procured for noxt season." Ho pointed out that the boats could bo mado in Wellington. Replying to Mr. P. P. Webb, tho Secretary said that tho total probablo cost of tho boats would bo .£230, and that it was not proposed to rodoom any of tho debentures during tho noxt year. Tho amount spent in boats during tho last twolve months was about £230. In roply to anothor quostion by the same gentleman, "the Chairman said that if the Clublouse had to 'be moved during the next twolve months thero would be ample moans in hand to defray tho cost. Otf the motion of Mr. Webb, seconded by r Mr. W. P. James, the question as to whether ' the tub pairs should be fitted with slides was referred to Dr. Foil and Mr. W. Barton. It was dooided that the double scullors should not be fitted with slides. Mr. J. C. Bishop suggested that the olnb should get medals struck for olub races. Tho Chairman said ;-tho matter was under tho consideration of , ; the committee. Replying to Mr. Bumes, the '- Chairman said that rules for olub races were •now being framed. Mr. King gave notioe of his intention to raovo for the amendment of rule 15. On the motion of Mr. M. O. : , Barnett, seconded by Mr. Bnrnes, it was resolved " That no dogs be allowed in the .flhed or on tho premises on any pretext 1 whatever— fine 55." The usual compliment "to the Chairman conoluded the proceedings.
